These beautiful ammonites from the Perisphincten family are dug up by local fishermen and farmers in the wasteland near Sakaraha in the province of Tulear in south-west Madagascar when they are not working, using the simplest tools in deep manholes. But that only works in the dry season, when it rains the access roads are impassable and the holes are under water.
