The Erzberg site near the town of Eisenerz in Styria is famous for its iron flowers. Mining for siderite and other iron minerals has been taking place here for hundreds of years; there are no documents about the start of mining. Rarely, leaching voids are found in the ore body, which can sometimes be lined with the iron blooms. With today's mining far below the earth's surface, these cavities have become much rarer.
